Padma Bhushan Award, the third highest civilian award in India was started to be presented in the year 1954. The Government of India incepted the award with a view to recognise the exceptional talents in different fields like Science & Engineering, Literature & Education, Medicine, Sports, Civil Service, Arts, Trade & Industry, Social Work, Public Affairs, etc. Appreciating the extraordinary people for their great achievements was also another objective behind incepting the award. The people from India and also abroad can get the award for their exceptional achievements. A total of 14 people received the Padma Bhushan Award in the year 1989.
