The extremely talented and successful people from India and also from abroad are honoured by the Government of India, through the Padma Bhushan Award. The award is considered as the third highest civilian award in India and is being presented by the Government of India, since 1954. The people from different fields like Science & Engineering, Literature & Education, Medicine, Sports, Civil Service, Arts, Trade & Industry, Social Work, Public Affairs, etc. get honoured by this award. They receive this award as recognition of their great achievements in their respective fields. The year 1987 saw a total of 12 people winning the Padma Bhushan Award.
