The year 1982 saw a number of 15 people from different fields winning the prestigious Padma Bhushan Award. The award is considered as the third highest civilian award in India and is presented by the Government of India, on a regular basis since 1954. The award is given to recognise the extraordinary talents and achievements of the Indian citizens and also foreigners, in their respective fields. The award is given to the people from almost every field like Science & Engineering, Literature & Education, Medicine, Sports, Civil Service, Arts, Trade & Industry, Social Work, Public Affairs, etc.
