Architectural Design of Pariyaram Dental College Pariyaram Dental College is a six-storied building. The area occupied by the college building is 154,000 sq. ft. The building is divided into various sections. These are the pre-clinical dental laboratories, lecture halls, a conference centre, faculty offices, administrative offices, clinical treatment areas, small group discussion areas, a faculty practice and a library. Admission in Pariyaram Dental College In Pariyaram Dental College students are admitted following the rules and regulations provided by the Government of Kerala. They are admitted to the BDS course on the basis of certain eligibility criterias. They are based on Pre-degree Examination, B.Sc. Degree course examination, Age and Seats. Pre-Degree Examination and B.Sc. Degree Course Examination This dental college is open to those who have passed the Pre-degree Examination of the Universities in Kerala with Physics, Chemistry, Biology as optional subjects or any other examination recognized by the Universities in Kerala as equivalent there to. It is mandatory for students to secure an aggregate of not less than 50% marks in the optional subjects and 50% for Biology. Candidates who have passed the B.Sc. Degree Course (3 years Course) examination of the Universities in Kerala or any other University recognized by the Universities in Kerala as equivalent there-to, with Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Botany/Biochemistry as main and any one or two of the above subjects as subsidiaries are also eligible for admission provided they have secured not less than 50% marks for the main and subsidiary subjects taken together. Age of Admission in Pariyaram Dental College As far as age is concerned, it is important for the students to note that they should have completed 17 years to be an applicant of this Dental College. Also, relaxation of the minimum age limit will not be considered in this college, on any account. Seats offered by Pariyaram Dental College 60 seats are available to applicants in the BDS course. There are three categories for admission to the first year in this institute. Category I comprises a total of 50% of the merit seats or free seats. More specifically, the Commissioner of Entrance Examinations, Government of Kerala is responsible for filling 50% seats. Another alternative is referring the rank list published by the institution. But this alternative is an option if the seats are not filled up within the time stipulated by the Medical Council of India. Category II comprises a total of 35% of the management seats. The management of Pariyaram Dental College is responsible for filling these seats. Category III comprises a total of 50% of the NRI seats. NRI seats are defined as those seats set apart for the son or daughter, brother or sister, niece or nephew, first cousin or dependent of non-resident Indian citizen. These are called the reserved seats. It is not mandatory for these applicants to appear for the entrance examination conducted by the CEE, Kerala. The marks obtained in the qualifying examination along with a personal interview will determine the admission of such applicants in the college. Curriculum of Pariyaram Dental College The curriculum followed by the students of Pariyaram Dental College is in accordance with the regulations with the Dental Council of India. During the first 2 years, students study biochemistry, human gross anatomy, general and oral histology, general and oral microbiology, physiology, pharmacology and oral medicine and pathology. Actual patient care situations commence in the third year to which the knowledge received in the first two years is applied. Functional group practices with a family of patients are undertaken in the third and fourth year of the course. In this regard, the progress of the students along with their competency is the responsibility of the faculty group practice director. Thus, it can be said that this curriculum is based on an integrated approach. More specifically, it combines extensive clinical practice with rigorous course work with the aim to achieve a better understanding of dentistry among students along with its relationship to overall health. This curriculum is structured for all specialties in dentistry such as Orthodontics, Prosthodontics, Conservative Dentistry, Paediatric Dentistry, Oral Medicine and Radiology, Periodontics and Implantology, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Oral Pathology and Microbiology and Community Dentistry. For all these specialties in dentistry, regular classes are held along with high quality training facilities in Craniofacial Surgery and Plastic Surgery. Prosthetic rehabilitation is carried out in the Department of Prosthodontics Maxillofacial. Community-oriented dental outreach programmes is also extended to students of this college. The students also attend patients with complex medical histories. They gain knowledge about patterns of diseases and oral health problems. They also get opportunity to learn from the outcomes of selected therapies. After completing the curriculum successfully, the B. D. S. Facilities provided at Pariyaram Dental College Pariyaram Dental College has well furnished class rooms with audio visual equipments like OHP's, LCD, pull down screens and public addressing systems with cordless microphones. Spacious laboratories cater to the needs of all the different departments of the college. These departments also have art instruments. The college library associated with the Academy of Medical Sciences Central Library. It is the best among the Medical College Libraries of Kerala. This library has a collection of books, journals and CD's. This college also has a sports complex which spreads over an area of about 36,000 square metres. This complex has facilities for games like football, volleyball, basketball, tennis and cricket in different venues. It also has an athletic track of 8 lines. This complex will also accommodate pavilions with seating facilities, swimming pool, gymnasium etc. The hostel is close to college, hospital and playground. The college canteen is well maintained and hygienic.
