History of Kasturba Medical College
KMC started its journey with the pre-clinical section at Manipal and the students had to go to Mangalore for their clinical training. In 1969 KMC became a full-fledged independent college with the clinical program at Manipal and a separate constituent college at Mangalore. Kasturba Medical College (KMC) was recognised by the Medical Council of India in 1958, with the first graduating class. It also got recognition from the General Medical Council of Great Britain and the Malaysian Medical Council, within the next few months.
Courses Offered by KMC
Kasturba Medical College (KMC), built on a 200 acre of land, has been providing education to the students and facilities for research work to the researchers, since its inception. The main undergraduate course that Kasturba Medical College (KMC) offers is MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery). The Post-graduate courses offered by KMC include the Super specialty Courses, Post Graduate Degree Courses and Post Graduate Diploma Courses. The Super specialty Courses include M.Ch in Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, Genitourinary Surgery (Urology & Andrology), Neuro Surgery and Paediatric Surgery, and DM in Cardiology and Neurology. The Post Graduate Degree Courses offered by the Kasturba Medical College (KMC) include the Master of Surgery (MS) in Anatomy, General Surgery, Otorhinolaryngology, Ophthalmology and Orthopaedic Surgery; Doctor of Medicine (MD) in Anaesthesiology, Biochemistry, Community Medicine, Forensic Medicine, General Medicine, Hospital Administration, Microbiology, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Pathology, Pharmacology, Physiology, Psychiatry, Radio Diagnosis, Radiotherapy, and Skin & VD.
Apart from these, Kasturba Medical College (KMC) also offers some Post Graduate Diploma Courses. These courses include DA in Anaesthesiology, DLO in Otorhinolaryngology, DGO in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, DO in Ophthalmology, DCH in Paediatrics, DCP in Pathology, DPM in Psychiatry, DMRD in Radiodiagnosis, DMRT in Radiotherapy and DVD in Skin & VD. The duration of the DM/M.Ch/MD/ MS courses is three years and that of Diploma Courses is two years. Admission to Kasturba Medical College is done by NEET, which is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). All seats in Manipal are based on NEET rankings and there are some management seats as well.
Museum of Anatomy and Pathology of KMC
KMC exhibits the Museum of Anatomy and Pathology, which has been inaugurated on 10th November 2012 by Dr. Rajendra K. Pachauri, director general of The Energy and Resources Institute, New Delhi. The museum houses 3000 cross sectional specimens, radiographs, skeletons of human and other vertebrates and developmental anatomy models.
