Vidhu Vinod Chopra was born on September 5, 1956. He is an academy award- nominated Indian producer and filmmaker and makes a combination of commercial and parallel films. His father was D. N. Chopra and veteran filmmaker Ramanand Sagar was his half-brother. Vidhu Vinod Chopra spent his childhood in Srinagar, Kashmir. He refrained from pursuing his Doctorate degree at Cambridge University and chose to study direction at the Film and Television Institute of India. He is married to a famous writer Anupama Chopra. He is also the founder of Vinod Chopra Productions. Vidhu Vinod Chopra shot into fame particularly due to the 'Munna Bhai' films.
Career of Vidhu Vinod Chopra
Vidhu Vinod Chopra's first short film as a student was 'An Encounter with Faces' in 1979 which won the National Film Award for Best Short Experimental Film and the Guru Dutt Memorial Award for Best Student Film. He has also made a short documentary 'An Encounter with Faces. ' It is based on the plight of India's destitute children.
Vidhu Vinod Chopra's is especially interested in offbeat films and has made a number of critically acclaimed films. His first film was Sazaa-E-Maut (Death Penalty) starring Naseeruddin Shah and Editor Renu Saluja. His other acclaimed movies include 'Parinda', '1942: A Love Story', the Munna Bhai series, 'Parineeta', 'Eklavya: The Royal Guard' and '3 Idiots.'
