Kuvalayaswa is the son of Vrihadaswa. In the Vishnu Purana he is mentioned as the prince of the Solar race. Kuvalayaswa, inspired with the spirit of Lord Vishnu, destroyed the Asura Dhundu. The demon Dhundu harassed the pious sage Uttanka in his devotion and he was thence entitled Dhundumara.
Dhundu to escape from Kuvalayaswa, the demon hid himself beneath the sea of sand. King Kuvalayaswa along with his twenty one thousand sons attacked Dhundu. Kuvalayaswa dug the demon out of the sea and killed him.
