Sri Pratap College Dramatic Club was the principal centre of entertainment in the city of Srinagar, capital of Kashmir for many years. This is also an important contributor to the development of Kashmiri theatre. This was established in 1905 by Annie Besant. Sri Pratap College, initially known as Hindu College was the first college in Jammu and Kashmir to promote secular and scientific education. It eventually became the home of all intellectual and literary activities, including dramaturgy. The teachers and students showed great enthusiasm for using the medium of theatre in persuading the common people to embrace modern education and fight superstitious beliefs. Unfortunately, none of the plays staged by their Dramatic Club was preserved.
