Daughter of Jennifer Kendal and Shashi Kapoor, Sanjana Kapoor is a popular theatre personality. She was born in 1967 and is a member of the famous Bollywood family, the Kapoors. She is the granddaughter of Prithviraj Kapoor, who founded, Prithvi Theatres, as a traveling theatre company in 1944. Sanjana's brothers Karan Kapoor and Kunal Kapoor are also well known names in the film and modeling industry. She is married to Valmik Thapar, a famous wildlife expert and they have a son named Hameer.
This former Indian film actress, who has been running the Prithvi Theatre in Mumbai since 1993, showed her implicit talent in every field of her interest.
In her childhood, she was admitted to the prestigious Bombay International School in Mumbai. She had a strong love for acting and frequented the Prithvi Theatre in Juhu. Even though she was the first female of her family to take up the decision of acting, her career was not successful.
She made her acting debut in the year 1981 in the film 36 Chowringhee Lane. This film was produced by her father and starred her mother Jennifer Kendal as the protagonist. She played the younger version of the character her mother played. She later again appeared in the film Utsav, released in 1984 also produced by her father. The first leading role in a Bollywood film titled Hero Hiralal (1988) brought her into limelight, however the film was unsuccessful.
In 1988, she appeared in Mira Nair's critically acclaimed film Salaam Bombay and that was her last film. Finally, she shifted her focus to theatre in 1990s, and soon she started supervising the Prithvi Theatre, in Juhu, Mumbai. Meanwhile, she also hosted the 'Amul India Show' on the television for three and a half years. Now she also conducts several theatre workshops for children.
