The Vishnu Purana relates that Kausharavi is a name of Maitreya. Maitreya was known as Kausharavi as he was the son of Kusharava. Kausharavi is the disciple of Parasara. He is also one of the chief interlocutors in the Bhagavata. Kausharavi is introduced in the Hindu epic Mahabharata as a great Rishi or sage who denounces Duryodhana's death.
