Rishikas are an ancient tribe living in the northern part of ancient India. Their existence is mentioned in the epic Mahabharata, Ramayana and Markandeya Purana.
In the Mahabharata, Rishikas are mentioned as Uttara Rishikas as well as Parama Rishikas. Rishikas are stated to have been living as neighbours to the Parama-Kambojas and the Lohas, in Sakadvipa. The Uttara Rishikas were the armed forces as well as the cultural and geographical neighbors of the Parama Kambojas. The northern Rishikas fought a violent battle with the forces of Pandava Arjuna during latter's Digvijay expedition against the tribes of Uttarapatha or northern division.
