Jara is a figurative term signifying 'old age' and 'decay'. Jara is mentioned in the Vishnu Purana as the name of the hunter by whom Krishna was killed.
Jara mistook the footsteps of Krishna as that of a deer. He shoots his arrow at that position. After he found that he had shot Krishna and not a deer, and then apologized for his mistake. He asked for pity and Krishna forgave him and sent him to heaven in his own car.
