Puru was the youngest son of king Yayati. Puru consented to give his youth and vigor to his father, and receive in exchange of Yayati's infirmities.
After Yayati had a thousand years experience of the vanity of sensual pleasures, he restored his youth to Puru, and installed him in the sovereignty of Pratishthana. The descendants of Puru were numerous and celebrated and included the Pandavas and Kauravas.
Puru was also the name of one of the sons of the Manu Chakshusha.
