As stated in Hindu mythology, Mitraya was a scholar of Sutra and teacher of the Puranas. He is said to be the composer of few Sanhitas, hymns and prayers. Mitraya's Sanhitas were later collected into the Vishnu Purana.
Mitraya is also the name of the son of Divodasa. Divodasa was the name of a tribal king in the Rig-Veda. The group of Maitreya Brahmans descended from Mitraya.
