Devasarman is the name of a Brahman, whose name is mentioned in the Panchatantra. Devasarman did not have any child and as a result his wife was very unhappy. Later, by chanting some mantra, they were blessed with a son. But, the child proved to be a snake. It was proposed by all that the monster should be destroyed. But, but the mother of the child did not allow so due to maternal affection and it was brought up with tenderness.
The child of Devasarman grew up and was married to a Brahman girl at the proper age. It is said that one night he was changed into a man. But, he wished to continue with the serpent form. However, when his father-in-law discovered the deserted skin, he threw it into the fire. So, he had to live in the figure of a man after that.
