Dakshina is one of the twin daughters of Ruchi and Akuti. They were the descendants of the first pair are evidently symbolic. Dakshina means 'donation' to the Brahmans and her twin sister 'Yajni' means 'sacrifice'.
Again, Dakshina is a fire for sacrifices placed to the south of the household fire and fire for oblations. In all spiritual traditions, giving Dakshina is considered an essential spiritual practice. In the Siddha Yoga tradition, the practice of offering to our spiritual path from our own wealth or earnings is called Dakshina.
