. He played a path-breaking role in developing and taking the form outside its native area during the 1950s, broadcasting Pandavani from Akashvani radio, Bhopal
, in 1964 and then performing elsewhere in India. His excellence at narration, singing, and enactment made him very popular with rural audiences, in turn drawing new recruits whom he trained, like Punaram Nishada.
