Bhutas are the evil spirits and is said to proceed from Brahma. Bhutas are the children of Krodha. Bhutas are the malignant spirits, goblins or ghosts, haunting cemeteries, lurking in trees, animating dead bodies, and deluding and devouring human beings. Bhutas are generally coupled with the Pretas and in this character belong to the Epic period. In the Puranic period Bhutas are personified as demi-gods of a particular class, produced by Brahma when incensed. As per the Padma-Purana, the mother of Bhutas is considered to be Krodha or 'Anger' and their father is Kashyapa.
