Mabali or Mahabali, also known as Bali is a great asura on whom the Onam festival is celebrated.
Mahabali is said to have reigned in South India, before Lord Ram and his empire extended from the Vindhyas in the north to the south. He was one of the great disciples of Lord Vishnu and is believed to have sacrificed his whole kingdom for the Lord.
