Bhishmaka was a king of Vidarbha. He used to reside at Kundina. Rukmin was the son of Bhishmaka and Rukmini was his beautiful daughter. Krishna fell in love with Rukmini and asked her for marriage. But, Rukmin, the son of Bhishmaka was against this marriage.
As suggested by Jarasandha, the powerful monarch, Bhishmaka affianced Rukmini to Sisupala. Krishna went to witness the wedding and arranged to take away the princess. Bhishmaka's son Rukmin overtook Krishna with a large force. Krishna therefore destroyed the host of Rukmin with his discus and would have slain him. But, he was withdrawn by the plea of Rukmini.
