Lord Maha Mrityunjaya Mahadev is the conqueror of 'Death' and therefore by getting his blessings through this Yantra, even an untimely death can be prevented. This Yantra is said to be abode of Lord Shiva and therefore a person is freed from troubles, tensions, stresses and various other problems of life by worshipping Lord Shiva through this Yantra. This Yantra is also very helpful in pacifying the negative effects of planets "Rahu" and "Ketu" if they are wrongly placed or are forming any bad effects like 'Kaal Sarp Dosha' in a person’s horoscope. This yantra should be worn in the neck in the form of a locket. A person wearing this locket is healthy and cured of all diseases. This yantra also eliminates negative energies.
Legend of Maha Mrityunjaya Yantra
According to legends, Saint Mukund did not have a son. Lord Shiva blessed them with a son. But, their son did not have a long life. Saint Mukund named him Markandeya. Markandeya was worried about his father’s tension as he did not have a long life. Then Markandeya started to worship Shiva Linga regularly and also read ‘Mrityunjaya Strotam’. When the boy had lived his life, Lord Yama visited him. The boy refused to go with him and hugged the Shiva Linga. Lord Shiva appeared and stopped Lord Yama from taking the boy’s life. Lord Yama accepted his defeat and left. Lord Shiva blessed Markandeya with a life till eternity. Lord Shiva stated that worshipping Maha Mrityunjaya yantra would save a person from death and diseases.
Mantra of Maha Mrityunjaya Yantra
"Om Hoom Om Joom Saha, Om Bhur Bhuvah Swaha, Om Triyambakam Yajamahey, Sungandhim Pushti Vardanam, Urva Rukamiva Bandhanan, Mrityor Muksheeya Mamritat, Swaha Bhuvah Bhur Om, Saha Joom Hoom Om"
The mantra should be recited 1000 times daily for 45 days. It should be carved or inscribed on copper or silver plate. Coconut, fruits, flowers, incense are particular items of food and offerings. In order to write it, sandalwood ink and a pen made of leaves is used. Mantras are written on the plate or metal and worshipped.
Formation of Maha Mrityunjaya Yantra
Maha Mrityunjaya Yantra is formed through Tantric activities. A line is drawn in the form of a geometrical image. 'Beej Mantra' or power numbers are written in these figures in order to form a 'Maha Mrityunjaya Yantra'. It is believed that Lords reside in their respective yantras. Hence, they are formed according to the powers of the Lord. This yantra should be formed with a pure heart during an auspicious time. It can be formed on a plate, paper or metal.
