Hypnosis and Weight Loss
Research activities have indicated that patients who have undergone hypnosis have displayed significant signs of weight loss, while those who were not treated to hypnosis did not show any signs of improvement.
Hypnosis and Pain
In a study which was conducted by scientists, it has been observed that migraine patients who had been treated by hypnosis experienced fewer migraine attacks as compared to their counterparts who refused to be treated. This great difference was evident only after six months after the treatment was undertaken. Moreover, the number of migraine patients who did not receive any migraine attacks for above three months were much higher, in case of people who had undergone hypnosis.
Hypnosis and Relief of Pain
Though it has been noticed that the process of hypnosis helps reduce pain to some extent, the exact technique of achieving this outcome has not yet been discovered. Volunteers felt much lesser pain when they were subjected to painful heat, however, following hypnosis. It was also proven that volunteers who underwent hypnosis showed a different pattern of activity in their brains rather than their counterparts who were not treated with hypnosis. The transformations of brain activities indicated that the process of hypnosis is capable of preventing the pain signal from travelling to the regions of the brain which help perceive pain. However, the lower portions of the brains of both the respondents and non-respondents of hypnosis displayed similar patterns of pain processing. Towards the top areas of the pain network in the brain, a reduced 'feeling' of the pain was also noticed for volunteers who had been hypnotised.
Hypnosis and Healing
Researches have been conducted to ascertain if hypnosis can reduce the scars which have been a consequence of breast surgery or even if it is able to decrease the breast size of the volunteers of the research. Hypnosis is often sought after especially by women with large breasts who experience physical, psychological or social complications due to their breast size. Studies have pointed out that hypnosis is able to help patients with colitis, high blood pressure, insomnia, stress, headaches, sexual dysfunction, warts, fear complexes and some other ailments.
Hypnosis and Skin Disorders
Innumerable skin ailments can be relieved with the aide of hypnosis. Rosacea, glossodynia, acne Excoriee, Verruca Vulgaris, Hyperhidrosis, Neurodermatitis, Dyshidrotic Dermatitis, Congenital Ichthyosiform Erythroderma, Trichotillomania, Atopic Dermatitis and plenty of other skin diseases can be eliminated if the patients are treated with hypnosis.
Hypnosis and Immune System
Extensive researches have proved that the technique of self hypnosis can enable the curing of stress-related disorders, thereby enhancing the immunity of the human body. It helps patients to enter into a state of relaxation, which indirectly boosts the body's immunity.
Other Research on Hypnosis
Hypnosis was found to be an effective tool for alleviating pain from cancer and other chronic conditions. Many clinical studies also indicate that hypnosis can reduce the acute pain experienced by patients undergoing burn-wound operations, bone marrow transplantations and childbirth. An analysis showed that hypnotic suggestions relieved the pain of the seventy five percent of the subjects.
One controlled scientific experiment postulated that hypnosis might alter the perception of conscious experience in a way that is not possible when the people are not hypnotized. In this experiment, the colour perception was changed by hypnosis in highly hypnotizable people as determined by PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) scans.
Recent studies have shown that hypnotized subjects suggested to experience auditory hallucinations demonstrated via PET scans, regional blood flow in the same areas of brain where it happens during real hearing while the subject engaged in vividly imagining hearing noises the same thing do not occur.
