Besides making them competent to be able to face the challenges and demands of contemporary society, this institution preserves the rich culture and ethnicity of India by throwing light on the past heritage as well. Sri K.R. Narayanan, the then Honourable Vice President of India, had founded the College on December 10,1994. Lt. Governor of Andaman & Nicobar, Mr Vakkom Purushothaman was present on that significant day. In fact Asan Memorial College of Arts & Science was built in remembrance of the famous Malayalam poet, Mahakavi Kumaran Asan of Kerala. Registered under Society Act, Asan Memorial Association, Chennai looks after the management of this college. Asan Memorial College of Arts & Science is self-financed, as the Government or any funding Agency do not provide any grant to this college for meeting capital expenses or daily costs. Asan Memorial College of Arts & Science offers courses both at graduate and postgraduate levels, which are in demand amongst the students. Asan Memorial College of Arts & Science, Jaladampet, Chennai Post Graduate Courses offered are- M.Sc. in Applied Microbiology, Biochemistry, Hotel & Catering Management.

The Departments of Asan Memorial College of Arts & Science include biochemistry, microbiology, hotel and catering management, computer science, visual communication, commerce and business administration. Every course of study has earned pride and prestige due to its group of efficient and qualified teachers.

Located in a campus encompassing an area of 12 acres at Jaladampet on Velachery-Tambaram Road, Chennai - 601 302, Asan Memorial College of Arts & Science is only twenty km from the core of the city and also about ten km from Saidapet. The beautiful campus is arrayed and glorified with good infrastructure like embellished gardens, magnificent buildings and facilities for undertaking sports and games. In order to display the creative skill of students, special programmes are organised in a huge and wonderful auditorium. It has a seating arrangement for about one thousand people at a time. The College houses well furnished classrooms, libraries and laboratories.

Asan Memorial College of Arts & Science College has a well-stocked spacious library. It has an array of books of general interest and also related to various subjects, including journals, magazines, and periodicals. On an average, the library has around 90-95 users per day.

Hostel facilities are provided to both male and female students of Asan Memorial College of Arts & Science. The hostel is situated in a huge building of several storeys. Healthy food including both vegetarian and non-vegetarian items are provided to the students which make them feel at home.
