Matki Chi Usal is a delicious dish mostly popular in the Maharashtra state of India. This dish is also known as moth bean curry or gravy. It is slightly sweet and spicy in taste. Matki Chi Usal is good for health since it is loaded with protein.
Ingredients of Matki Chi Usal
2 Cups green grams
2 Chopped onions
Half cup chopped tomatoes
1 tsp coriander leaves
1 tsp mustard seeds
Half tsp asafoetida
1 tsp turmeric powder
2 tsp red chilly powder
Half tsp goda masala or garam masala
2 tsp grated coconut
1 tsp jaggery
1 tsp peanut powder
2 tsp oil
Half tsp salt
2 cups water
Method of Preparing Matki Chi Usal
Soak green grams overnight. Boil for five minutes with half tsp turmeric powder and half tsp salt. Keep aside.
Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, asafoetida and onions. Wait till onions turn translucent.
Add tomatoes, turmeric powder and red chilly powder. Stir for half minute.
Add the par boiled green grams. Add salt to taste. Add half tsp goda masala or garam masala. Add grated coconut.
Add Jaggery and peanut powder.
Garnish with coriander leaves and desiccated coconut.
Serve.
Matki Chi Usal can be prepared at home and can also be seen in various restaurants. The food lovers can taste this dish with jawar, roti or bread during lunch as well as dinner.
