![]() Campus of North-Eastern Hill University Shillong campus is the headquarters of academic and administrative functions. The main campus of NEHU is 1225 acres in area. It accommodates National Council of Science Museums (NCSM), Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), Sports Authority of India (SAI) and The English and Foreign Languages University. Administration in North-Eastern Hill University Vice Chancellor is the head of the administrative level, who is appointed by the President of India for five year tenure. The Governor of Meghalaya is the chief rector. Two pro-vice-chancellors are appointed under the Vice Chancellor; one for each of the campus. Under them one Registrar is appointed. The university runs its central administration from its main campus in Mawkynroh-Umshing, Shillong. Library of North-Eastern Hill University The Central Library of this university initially started in 1973 with a collection of 600 books. The permanent library at Shiilong campus was funded by the Indian Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region and the library was inaugurated in 2006. Currently the library has a collection of over 230,000 books, and 38,000 bound periodicals; it subscribes to 316 foreign and 366 Indian journals. Schools of North-Eastern Hill University There are different schools structured in this university for educational systems from which several departments of studies are functioned. The schools are School of Economics and Management, School of Education, School of Human and Environmental Sciences, School of Humanities, School of Life Sciences, School of Physical Sciences, School of Social Sciences, and School of Technology.
