Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University was set up in the year 1965. It was set up by an Act passed by the Uttar Pradesh legislature. It started functioning from 1st September 1957. Initially, the functioning University started with only four faculties, Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Commerce, Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Education. In the year 1958, the Faculty of Science came up. Gradually the Faculties of Engineering, Medicine and Agriculture came up. The territorial jurisdiction of the University extends over five districts of the Gorakhpur Division and there are nearly one hundred and twenty three colleges under its wing.
The University aims to provide quality education, excellent research and good infrastructure for, stimulating the pursuit of knowledge. The University has an excellent faculty who are eminent personalities in their respective fields.
