Mettupalayam is a ' panchayat town' situated in Tiruchirapalli district of the southern state of India, Tamil Nadu. Tiruchirapalli, the district headquarters is located in the south at a distance of 45 kilometers. It is well connected to the other cities and towns in the state because the nearest access points are the Tiruchirapalli Junction Railway Station and the Tiruchirapalli Airport. The town is equidistant from Uppiliyapuram and Kannanur at a distance of 13 kilometers.
It is imperative to know the demography of the town in order to have an idea about the population. According to the Indian Census report published in 2001, the population of Mettupalayam was enumerated to be7538. Males account for 50% of the population and females comprises of the remaining 50%. In Mettupalayam, 9% of the population is less than six years of age. The average literacy rate of Mettupalayam is 70% which is higher than the national average literacy rate which is 59.5%. To be precise, the male literacy rate which is 79% and the female literacy rate is 60%.
Thuraiyur, which is located in the east of Mettupalayam, houses the temple of Prasanna Venkatasalapathi Temple. The temple is a prime attraction in the vicinity of Mettupalayam.
