With the experience of more than 20 years specialization on the dance form Kathak, Arpita Roy has been reckoned today as one of the accomplished Kathak dancer from the "Lucknow Gharana" of international repute. She has been trained under the illustrious guru Parimal Krishna. Later on she has sharpened her repertoire from famous Guru Bandana Sen, who has also been the disciple of Pandit Shambhu Maharaj.
Arpita Roy has obtained the degree of Nritya Prabhakar and Nritya Visarad in Kathak from highly esteemed Allahabad Board and Tailakka Board of India. For the last 9 years she has been settled in the US. But her love for the traditional art form dance led her to learn different style of Dance. Jazz, Hip-hop, Ramba/Salsa and different modern/bollywood styles are among those different styles of dance that she has learnt.
Arpita Roy in Washington DC Metro Area, USA actively executing her performances. Apart from performing, she has also been exhibited as choreographer. In Indian International School, Fairax, VA, Arpita Roy also teaches Kathak. She also holds the post of a member of Indian Dance Educator's Association (IDEA). Throughout her dancing career, she has been conferred the Gold Medal in Kathak dance competition held at Bani Chakra Dance School, Calcutta. In Tailakka board she stood first in all over India and conferred a gold medal. She obtained the 3rd position in Doverlane music competition held in Calcutta.
Some of the performances exhibited by her are: Showcase on Indian Dance, Maryland in the year 2007; Zee Indian Heritage Festival - 2006/2007; Image-In-Aisan Talent Show - 2006; Republican/Independence Day Celebration - 2006; In Publick Playhouse under guidance of Guru Bandana Sen; In inaugural ceremony in North America Bengali Conference 2004; Several performances in for Northern Virginia Bengali Association; Group performance in Jews Community Center; Doverlane Competition, Nazrul Mancha, Calcutta; Solo/Group performance in Mahajati Sadan, Calcutta; Solo performance in Calcutta Door-Darshan TV Show (Hare-kara-kamba); Several Solo/group performance in Rabindra Sadan and Gorki Sadan, Calcutta.
