Puspita's emergence as a rare artist was made possible because of the blends of the rhythmic grace and symphony combined into her dance. Puspita Mishra through her dance performances sometimes convinced her audiences to believe her genuinely an animated sculpture on the walls of Konark temple. Her complex footwork combined with her elegant karanas and charis, her hand gestures and mudras, as well as the expression of her eyes lead the viewer into a world of beauty and grace. In the historic temple city of Bhubaneswar, she was born in the year 1971. Bhubaneswar is the state capital of Orissa. Puspita Mishra has done her post graduation in Sociology. She also fetched the Sangeet Visharad in Odissi Dance to her credit. From the tender age of 3 years, she has mastered in Odissi dance. Puspita Mishra was born to Sri. Nilakantha Mishra and Sushama Mishra and married to Mr. Anshuman Mishra, who is a social worker. The couple is blessed with amazing twins a boy and a girl, Adarsh and Adyasha. Puspita Mishra, under the able tutelage of Late Guru Padmashree Pankaja Charan Das who is considered to be the senior most among the Gurus of Odissi mastered the style of the dance. At present Puspita Mishra is practicing under Guru Sri Niranjan Rout. Puspita Mishra apart from being a renowned dancer has also choreographed several pieces. Some of them are: 'Trishakti' - the first item choreographed by her on the occasion of Puri Beach Festival 1991. ![]() Puspita Mishra has performed at various TV channels and in numerous festivals. Govt. of Orissa, Bipllabee Dharanidhara Nayak Jayanti, Bhubaneswar Mahotsav, Dhauli Festival, Parampara Festival, Chelitola Britavandana Ustav, National Homeopathic Conference, Utakal Divas, Baliyatra Festival, Ashra Fundraising Show, Pankai Utsav, Puri Beach Festival, Centennary Celebration of Geological Survey of India, Guru Pankai Utsav, Jayadev Janmautsav and many more. Puspita Mishra has established Kalingayana Tourya Trikam, an organization of performing art in the year 2001. The main objective of the organization is to provide conventional education on Odissi dance to the new generation. The organization, Kalingayana Tourya Trikam in each year organizes an annual solo Odissi dance competition. In that competition there are three age categories and the participant of those categories are being rewarded as sub junior - 5 to 11 years, junior 12-17 years and senior 18 - 25 years with cash awards of Rs 10000, 5000 & 2500 respectively. The Delhi Doordarshan Kendra has honored her as the grade 'A' artist. The Ministry of Human Resources and Development, Gov't of India has also conferred her the research scholarship. Presently she is busy with the exploration of the subtle innovation in Odissi dance. |
