Gopamau is a small town in Hardoi district of the northern state of India, Uttar Pradesh. It is located in the eastern part of the district. The local administration of the place is under the jurisdiction of the panchayat. The district headquarters is in the town of Hardoi, which is 24 km. from Gopamau. The town shares its borders with the Sitapur district. The nearest railway station is the Behtagokul Railway station and the Amausi Airport is the nearest airport. It is located between 27.55° North latitude and 80.28° East longitude at an average elevation of 143 metres (469 feet) above mean sea level.
The 2001 India census report reveals that Gopamau had a small population of 12,604 inhabitants. Males and females account for 54% and 46% of the population. In Gopamau, 19% of the population is less than six years of age. This small settlement has an average literacy rate of 37% which is lower than the national average literacy rate of 59.5%. The male literacy rate is 44% and the female literacy rate is 30%.
In the north of Gopamau at a distance of 13 km, is Pihani, a historically famous town. Bharali, Qutubnagar and Maikalganj are located in the vicinity. A visit to the Sandi Bird Sanctuary from here will be an exciting experience.
