The headquarters of the battalion was located in Waltair (now Visakhapatnam). The uniform of the East Coast Rifle Volunteer Corps included formal Khaki drill. In 1901 the detached companies of the unit were stationed to different bases at Garividi, Samalkot, Nellore, Berhampore (Madras Presidency), Bimlipatam, Vizianagram, Gunter, Bezwada, Rajahmundry, Masulipatama and Coconada. On 14th October 1890, the battalion was renamed as East Coast Rifle Volunteers.
