Basoda is a city as well as a municipality in the Vidisha district in the state of Madhya Pradesh in central India. The administrative headquarters of the district are situated in the city of Vidisha. The district of Vidisha spreads over an area of 2,742 square km. The districts of Ashoknagar to the northeast, Sagar to the east, and Raisen to the south and Bhopal to the southwest, and Guna to the northwest surround it. The Vidisha District lies at the meeting point of the western Malwa region with the eastern Bundelkhand region. The historic city of Besnagar and the Buddhist stupa at Sanchi belong to this district.
The exact location of the city of Basoda is at 23.85° North and 77.93° East. It has a mean elevation of 399 metres (1309 feet). As per the 2001 India census, Basoda has a population of 62,358. Males make up 53% of the population and females comprise 47%. The city has an average literacy rate of 69%, higher than the nationwide standard of 59.5%. 59% of the males and 41% of the females are literate. 15% of the population is children less than 6 years of age. There are many religious places to visit in Basoda. Some of these are the Shitla Mata temple, the Noulakhi temple, the Baba Ramdeo temple, the Jain Mandir and the Chetyalaya.
