Pune Warriors India is a franchisee from Pune and made its first appearance in IPL for 2011 season; now in 2013 the captain of Pune Warriors India is Angelo Mathews, a Srilankan player.

This team from Pune, alongside the Kochi Tuskers Kerala, was one of two new franchisees added to the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the 2011 season. During the 2010 IPL auction for two new teams, Subrata Roy of Sahara Group bought the Pune IPL team for 1,702 crore. The Videocon Group lost the bid for the Pune IPL Team. For the 2011 season of IPL the PWI had their home ground at DY Patil Stadium ground.

Owners of Pune Warriors India
Sahara Adventure Sports Limited, for the Pune franchise, on March 2010, made a winning bid of $370 millions. The bid is the highest bid by any company in the short history of IPL. The official sponsor of the team is TVS Motor and the franchisee has also aigned Adidas as their official apparel sponsor. The other sponsors include Royal Challenge, Pepsi, Playup(mobile gaming partner), Amity University, Finolex, Valvoline.

The team colour and logo have a spear-wielding warrior riding a stallion with the name of the team next to it. The team colour is black and the name of was kept was Sahara Pune Warriors which was later changed to Pune Warriors India.
