The Ardha Brahmans are a group of fisherman community. As per the `Kerala Ulpatti` Parashuram had once recovered a large band of territory from the ocean on the Malayalam coast. Then he sanctified certain fishermen to officiate as Brahmans to the rest of the people and promised to come at their call. But they did some works to displease him. So, Parashu Rama became angry and disfranchised them. Thereafter, he called in a colony of pure Brahmans from Hai Kshetram. He delivered charge of the rites and ceremonies of the people to those Brahmans. Since then, the fishermen had the title of `half-Brahmans` or Ardha Brahmans.
