The Madhya Pradesh Cricket team is a domestic team in which mainly the players from the state participate. This cricket team falls in the Plate Group of the "Ranji Trophy" cricket matches. The Madhya Pradesh Cricket team started playing as a team since 1950/51. In the year 1941, Holkar, a prominent Dhangar family, entered the "Ranji Trophy" competition. They existed for fourteen years and won the Ranji title four times and stood second six times during that period with players like C K Nayudu and Mushtaq Ali. They participated in the "Ranji Trophy" up to 1954-55. Then it was resolved and substituted by a Madhya Bharat team. After two years it turned to be a part of the Madhya Pradesh Cricket team. Till now, the best achievement by the team was reaching the final of the "Ranji Trophy" in 1998/99. During the time period between 1988 and 2001, great cricketers like Sandeep Patil and Chandrakant Pandit from Bombay (now Mumbai) captained the team.
