Santhal Dance, West Bengal |

The women-folk of this community are worshippers of nature and also of banadevis, which mean Goddesses of Forest. These are worshipped during many festive occasions as well as social ritual gatherings. On such occasions the entire community performs different kinds of dances to express their joy, gratitude & respect to nature. All these dances turn out to be vibrant along with the sweet melody accompanied with their songs in the santhali language. The songs and the dances are performed with some supporting musical instruments like Dhamsa, Madal and Singa.
Over the period of time, the Santals have consciously or unconsciously built up a sense of solidarity amongst them and have preserved their identity and heritage. All these things are mainly responsible for Santhali dances being so distinct from other tribal communities.
