Roop Kumar Rathod is holder of such a voice that sticks out among the rest. Sometimes it mesmerizes the hearts of listeners. Roop Kumar Rathod was born to late Pandit Chaturbhuj Rathod (father), a classical celebrity who is an inspiration to others. Kalyanji - Anandji and singer Manhar trained under his tutelage. To carry forward the classical tradition of his father, Roop Kumar also started playing with Pankaj Udhas and Anup Jalota unlike elder brother Shravan Rathod (of the Nadeem-Shravan duo). Roop Kumar Rathod is euphorically married to Sonali. She originally belongs to a business family and is the daughter Leena Jhaveri, a classical dancer. Sonali Rathod is a committed student of Indian classical music. She received her training in Indian Classical music under Purshottam Upadhyay and Hridaynath Mangeshkar. She is still undergoing training under them. In 1978, due to some medical problem, she lost her strength to sing. The situation persisted for over 6 long years. Wanting to remain in music, even if not vocal, she began to learn to strum the sitar. As her voice tardily `came back`, she started honing it with her regular `riyaaz` (modulate the voice with regular singing). Later on she was also groomed under Ustad Niyaz Ahmed Khan. With an album `Aaghaaz`, in 1986, Sonali emerged as a victorious singer. For this album she won the Best Ghazal Singer award in 1986. `Bhajan Kalash`, `Bhajan Yatra` and `Khazana` (all live), `Mogra Nu Phool` (in Gujrati), `Shabnam` and `Dilkash` are her other albums. Roop Kumar Rathod comes across as a leading composer - singer outside films. But after the success of `Mohabbat Ho Gayee`, he started lending his voice in films also. Sonali Rathod along with him continues in her conventional vein with changing popularity.
