Ayurvedic Massages in Polio
Poliomyelitis is a viral disease that can be reduced by ayurvedic massage and medication.

Poliomyelitis or Polio is a viral disease that affects many people all over the world. In this disease the affected person is almost unable to stand or walk. When hands are affected by polio the patient loses the ability to hold and grip and can not perform any work.

In Polio disease special type of therapy is used known as Kerala therapy. The various types of therapy are named as njvarakizzhi, elakizzhi, pizichhil and mamsakizzhi. Njvarakizzhi is the massage therapy with bolus containing medicated rice. Elakizzhi is a massage where the bolus is filled up with a special material, made up of plenty of leaves, turmeric and lemon paste. In Pizichhil procedure special oil is prepared and poured in a particular fashion on the patient`s body. A sponge or a cloth is taken, dipped in the oil and then taken in fist to pour through thumb in the patient`s body. The Mamsakizzhi is the procedure of rubbing of flesh of certain animals and then adding it in the nonvegetarian diet. It is believed in Ayurveda that the chicken or mutton soup made by Mamsakizzhi method increases the tone of muscle that is helpful in Polio.

This Ayurvedic massage in Polio is combined with different other internal medications like brimhan Vasti(powered enema), Nasya karma (medicated oil that is applied in the nostrils).

The oils those used for the massage are chandanbalalakshadi tailam, bala tailam, Ashwagandha tailam, Ksheerbala tailam and many other preparations.
