Sivananda Ashram, Tehri, UttarakhandThe Sivananda Ashram is located at Sivanandanagar, in Tehri District of Garhwal, Uttarakhand. The Sivananda Ashram is located at the splendid backdrop of the great Himalayan range. The ashram is located just 3 kilometers away from Rishikesh. The place is also known as Sivanandanagar, situated under the tehri-Garhwal districtof the state of the Uttaranchal. The nearest airport to the Ashram is Jolly Grant at Dehradun at a distance of 40 kilometers. Rishikesh is very nearby, which has very good rail-root connections to all parts of the country.

The Sivananda Ashram was established by Swami Sivananda in the year 1932. This ashram is situated quite close to the Swarg Ashram. Initially the ashram was an abandoned cowshed. Swami Sivanadaji used to call it Ananda kutir or the `Abode of Bliss`. Soon the disciples started gathering near Ananda kutir and turned the place to an ashram.

Swami Sivananda founded the Divine Life Society four years later in the Sivanada Ashram. After that in the year 1938, a journal named `The Divine Life` started to publish from the ashram. `Serve, Love, Give, Purify,Meditate, Realise` was the motto of Sivananda society that bought its uniqueness. Sri Viswanath Mandir was consecrated in the year 1943. Swami Sivananda used to treat the patients that included poor localites, pilgrims and passing monks regularly. Later the Sivananda Ayurvedic Pharmacy was established in the year 1945.The pharmacy use rare Himalayan herbs in the medicinal preparation.

Swami SivanandaSwami Sivananda was one of the most famous Yoga -Gurus of the world. He founded `Yoga Vedanta Forest Academy` in the year 1948 to guide his disciples and followers. The number of his followers significantly increased to learn the process of Yoga. The academy established its own Press in the year 1951. The Sivananda Eye Hospital was founded in 1957, six years before the passing of the great visionary doctor, Swami Sivananda.
