The Yoga Institute is a non-sectarian and non-profit organization for Yoga practice through physical, moral and psychic self -education. The Yoga Institute is located at Prabhat Colony in Santacruz, Mumbai.
The campus of the Yoga Institute is always very busy. The various courses and classes begin at dawn from 6.30 am. The noteworthy feature of this Institute is Yoga is combined with medical check ups. Every Saturday afternoon `Samattvam` is held at 1.30 pm. The session helps the people who are suffering from various physical and emotional problems. The session lasts for about three hours and includes video presentation, a question answer session between the patients and the experts and guidance of both medical and yogic practitioners. A medical expert initially checks the person and determines the problems and or illness. Dr. Jayadev then goes through the reports personally and finds patients` trauma and physical condition to prescribe the proper asanas/ yogas for him/ her and also the other courses he/ she should take up at the yoga institute. Dr. Jayadev`s wife Hansaji is also involved with the Yoga institute. She says, "We take a very realistic approach to life. The person coming here has to ultimately train his/her mind. We only act as guides. It is the pupil who has to be mentally prepared to make the necessary changes, be it in eating habits or in sleep timings. It calls for a lot of discipline."
The Yoga Institute also has a book center or library where several books on yoga written by various authors are found. Moreover symposium and panel discussion with the important people take place at regular interval in this institute. The camp is also held regularly. At the ashram the camping facility is available to organize special individuals and group sessions. A prior notice is given of two days in different regional and international languages. The Yoga Institute offers regular health camps. The schedule for the same is available at the Yoga Institute. There are seven days residential health camp, organized each month in both Hindi and English. Sometimes there are 2 days camps arranged, which include Cardiac and Hypertension Camp, Orthopedic camp. The other program includes Stress management, pregnancy anti and postnatal program, and discuss about various diseases and their remedy diabetes, respiratory problems, menopause etc.
There is a fee structure of the Yoga Institute. The seven-day health camp is organized at a fee of Rs. 1000, which also includes boarding and lodging. The two days camps are organized at a fee of Rs. 300 that is inclusive of lunch and tea. The Ashram also arranges 2-day education camps ion Self Development, Concentration, relaxation, mind and memory. This camp fee is Rs 200 that includes the service of lunch.
The yoga Institute also organizes Teacher Training Program, which has two courses, one in English and the other in Hindi.
Yoga Teacher Training Course in English: Those who successfully complete the seven-day Yoga Health Camp are eligible to enroll them in the Yoga Teacher Training course in English for seven months. Admissions are done on the first date of every month. Each month is considered as a unit and different topics are taught in different months. Participants are required to take part in six health camps and four educational camps. They are expected to assist in a 7 day Health Camp and in a 21 Days Better Living Program.
Yoga Teacher Training Course in Hindi: The teacher training program in Hindi spans for 1 year and one can join it after the successful completion of 7 day Yoga Health Camp. The participants must attend six Health Camps and four Educational Camps. They are also required to assist in a 21 day Better Living Class and a seven day Residential Camp. The fee to join this training course is Rs 400 for the first month and Rs 100 for the subsequent months.
The participants are instructed to carry their own personal belongings like a pair of slippers and personal medicines (if anything prescribed by the physician), towels, personal toiletries and clothes, notebooks and pens. Foreigners must submit their passport and visas.
There are certain restrictions on what to do and what not. Personal telephone calls can be made between 12.30 to 2.30 p.m. The Time to receive calls and see the visitors are between 4.30 to 5.30 pm. Attendance on time is a must. Use of tape recorders, Walkman or any musical instrument is totally prohibited. Reading of magazines, newspaper, books (outside publications) are not allowed. Apart from what is served at the Yoga Institute, only fruits are permitted to be brought from outside.
