Riya Sen is the daughter of renowned film actress Moonmoon Sen born on January 24th, 1981 in Kolkata. Her father, Bharat Dev Varma comes from a royal family of Tripura. Her sister Raima Sen is also a renowned film actress. She did her academics from Loreto House and Rani Birla College in Kolkata. Riya Sen like her mother has acquired the sex symbol image in Bollywood. She has been able to make a mark in the film industry by her bold dressing sense. Riya Sen first came in limelight at the age of 15 when she faced the camera for the Tamil film `Taj Mahal` directed by `Bharati Raja`. Then she has also done many music videos and albums in Indipop Circuit.

Her first offer in movies came along with the movie, "Love You Hamesha" directed by Kailash Surendranath. Some of her noted movies include, "Shaadi No. 1", "Silsiilay", "It Was Raining That Night", "Dil Ne Jise Apna Kaha", "Plan, Qayamat: City Under Threat", "Jhankaar Beats", "Dil Vil Pyar Vyar", "Style", and "Love You Hamesha". Riya Sen first appeared as a child artiste in the film "Vishkanya", where she portrayed the role of young Pooja Bedi. The only film of hers, which surprisingly turned out to be well received and refreshing, was "Jhankar Beats". Riya Sen became a popular model when she appeared in different music videos for songs by popular singers, which included Asha Bhonsle`s (Jhumka Gira Re), Falguni Pathak`s (Yaad Piya Ki Aane Lagi or Chudi jo khanki), Jagjit Singh`s and Asha Bhonsle`s (Jab Samne Tum, Kahin Kahin Se), Sonu Nigam (Jeena Hai Tere Liye), and Shaan (Sutta Maro). She did her first pop album - Yaad Piya Ki Aane Lagi - at the tender age of 16.

Although her movies did not manage to hit box-office, however, her performance in "Jhanker Beats" opposite Sayan Munshi and her comic role in "Style" was praised and acknowledged. Although her movies did not do too well, however her cameo roles and item numbers are well acclaimed. On the personal front she was having a relationship with another popular Bollywood actor Ashmit Patel but soon after they broke off.
