Galta Temple, Jaipur
Diwan Kriparam built the beautiful Sun Temple on the top of the highest peak in Jaipur.

Galta Temple, JaipurThe Galta Temple located in the city of Jaipur is dedicated to the Sun God. In the Western part of India, it is only one of its kinds. Diwan Kriparam built the beautiful Sun Temple on the top of the highest peak in Jaipur. It is visible from every spot at Jaipur. The Birla family financially supports the Galta Temple. Among the lush landscapes of trees and bushes, this temple is an old place of pilgrimage. Behind the temple there is a deep temple-filled gorge.

The complex boasts one temple at the left and another at the right. Heavy noise of bells and drums reverberate the temple complex. There are three holy tanks known as `kunds` behind a fence in the temple. These three are situated on top of each other. There is a staircase leading to the upper pool. The first pool was only for men, the second only for women and the third only for holy monkeys.

Apart from these, there are bright colored paintings with images of Lord Brahma, Vishnu, Ganesha and Parvati. Few friezes are there, which shows scenes from religious festivals and state occasions. Previously, the temple had some beautiful frescoes many of which were washed away by the heavy rains in 1991. There are also many pavillions in the rounded roof of the temple.

The temple celebrates the Hindu festival of Makar Sankranti in the middle of January with full enthusiasm. Devotees never fail to take holy dip in the kunds even in the cold month of January.
