
As museum is a place to know a place`s cultural past and heritage, the Manipur State Museum at the beautiful Imphal in the state of Manipur displays its history, culture and heritage.
Established in the year 1969, the Manipur State Museum is a show house of the art and archaeology of the place. Collections in the museum include Manipuri costumes, war implements, historical documents and relics. In addition to these, there are also sculptures of the local forest gods, the motif of the Phakangba, the person who could transform himself into a dragon. This dragon form of Phakangba is considered as the ancestor of all Vaishnavites. Besides, it is a treasure house of works of art, archaeology, textiles, natural history, a portrait collection of the erstwhile rulers of the state and armory of the Royal Army.
Interested people who are likely to visit the museum may come between 10am to 4:30pm. The museum remains closed on every Sunday and other recognized holidays.
