It is ringed by great mountains, and it snows in through out the winter season and can be accessed for few months during the summer through the high passes. The adventure destination of Zanskar is one of the isolated and scantly inhabited Himalayan Valleys.

General Information about trekking in Zanskar Valley

The altitude of the Zanskar valley is about 5150 m and it takes nearly 18-20 days to complete the full trek on the Zanskar valley.

Zanskar valley is considered as one of the most adventurous and a fascinating one. Zanskar can be reached by road and by trek in summer. It takes two days to reach to Padum by road. This trek will actually take the travellers to Ladakh and Zanskar and on the way one can pass monasteries where the culture of Buddhism is prevalent. The road from Leh to Kargil is well built with mettle road and from half way between Kargil and Zanskar; the terrain is quite rough and full of magnificent flora and fauna sights.

Landscape of the Zanskar Valley
This place is one of the remotest places in the world where the local culture is as pristine as 24-carat diamond, the landscape is spectacular and the people are warm hearted. This is without doubt the finest long distance trek one will ever come across. The landscapes are wonderful with different shapes and colours of the mountains, rocks and boulders. One can also have the opportunity to see the large glacier on the way. Its unique high passes and the valleys, crystal clear streams and green meadows are very attractive, especially to nature lovers. The architectural influence of Tibet played a role in making the place a popular destination as well. Places to See in Zanskar
Zanskar is wrapped in snow-covered peaks and small alpine lakes. But there is nothing comparable to the wonderful view of the "Drang-Drung" glacier. Zangla is the nodal point on the popular Padum-Strongdey-Zangla-Karsha-Padum round trip, which covers most of the cultural sites of Zanskar. The other spectacular cave monastery of Zanskar are in Zongkhul, that falls on the Padum-Kishtwar trekking trail, just before the ascent of Omasi-la Pass begins. The Monastery of Stongdey lies 18 km to the north of Padum, on the road leading to Zangla. Panikhar is an important place in the Zanskar Valley that is the border of the Suru Valley. At Panikhar the fort of Zorawar Singh is a major tourist attraction. Penzella Pass divides the Zanskar valley with the Suru Valley.

Best Time to visit Zanskar Valley
One will be surrounded by Mountains and very deep gorges, the wild flowers and the green fields are seen to be believed, the Zanskar River completes the picture. This will be a lifetime experience. The best season to visit the place would be June to September.
