Vivek Razdan is a former and first Indian cricketer from the state of Jammu and Kashmir to have played in the National Indian Cricket Team. Since the year 1989 to 1990, he played 2 Tests and 3 One Day Internationals. Post retirement, Razdan settled in Delhi as a cricket coach and commentator. Vivek Razdan was born on 25th August 1969 in the Indian capital Delhi. He did his schooling from St. Columba`s School and Sardar Patel Vidyalaya, both in Delhi.
Vivek Razdan had a very brief Test career. In the 1989 tour of Pakistan he played as a bowler in two innings for India and bagged five wickets in the second of them in the beginning only. However his overnight fame faded off soon. He received his initial training at MRF Pace Foundation. Subsequently his outstanding performances in the two tournaments namely Duleep and Irani trophies got him selected for the trip to Pakistan at the age of 20. He could not mark his presence in the debut Test match; however in his second venture at Faislabad he resumed his excellent play exhibiting some disconcerting movement off the wicket and claiming 5-79 in the final Test at Sialkot. His game helped India to achieve a lead of 74 runs in first innings.
In his following matches, he could not sparkle as before and in the trip to New Zealand, Razdan did not play in the Tests and only bagged one first class wicket on the entire tour. He played his third and last ODI in India against Sri Lanka. During that phase he was based in Madras as an MRF trainee and was the representative of Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy.
Vivek Razdan served as a significant member of the Delhi squad which won the 1991-92 Ranji Trophy by making two hundreds against 96 balls. In quarterfinal, against Bengal Cricket Team, he also made 200 runs. Beside there is a crucial 93 runs in the final match against his former team, Tamil Nadu Cricket Team. In addition to playing as a brilliant batsman, he also took 23 wickets in the tournament. However two seasons later his name blurred off and he took up television commentary as his career.
