V B Chandrasekhar

Vakkadai Biksheswaran Chandrasekhar, popularly known as VB Chandrasekhar, was born on 21st August 1961 in Chennai. This former Indian cricketer had presented himself as a right-hand batsman and a wicket-keeper. Apart from representing Tamil Nadu, Chandrasekhar had participated in 7 One-Day Internationals for India, during 1988-90. V B Chandrasekhar was a dashing batsman. In the 1988-1989 Irani Trophy, V B Chandrasekhar, batting for Tamil Nadu, against the Rest of India at Chennai, attained a valiant hundred from 56 balls. His batting excellence, on that occasion, surpassed even his talented batting partner in that match, Krishnamachari Srikkanth. This century, is till date celebrated as one of the fastest centuries in the history of First-class cricket.

Cricketing Career of V B Chandrasekhar
Consequently, V B Chandrasekhar was called to take part in the ODI for India, against New Zealand. In this India vs. New Zealand match, at Visakhapatnam, on December 10, 1988, Chandrasekhar went without making any special performance. However, he rose to prominence, in the 1989-90 seasons. He achieved two marvellous hundreds in the Duleep Trophy. In the initial phase of 1990, V B Chandrasekhar, made a comeback in the national squad. He underwent the expedition to New Zealand. Chandrasekhar made a stunning beginning with 92 and 71 in the First-class cricket. His last ODI was in the Australia vs. India match on March 8, 1990. Nevertheless, V B Chandrasekhar was one of the prime factors behind the rejoicing victory of the state of Tamil Nadu in Ranji Trophy, in 1987-88, with a mountainous total above 550 runs with over 551 runs.

Chandrasekhar has played 81 First-class cricket matches and made a total 4999 runs, with a highest score of 237 and average of 43.09. Furthermore, he has played 41 List-A matches, with 1053 total runs and a highest score of 88. His average in these matches is 26.32. Chandrasekhar has the proud record of procuring 572 runs in the 1991-92 seasons. He had worked as the captain of the Tamil Nadu team for some years, prior to his joining hands with the team of Goa.

Retirement from Cricket by VB Chandrasekhar
VB Chandrasekhar retired from cricket in the late 1990s. With his sheer merit, he had bagged 3971 runs, at an average of 41.80 in the national contest. His topmost score was 237, not out for Goa, against Kerala. Presently, he maintains a cricket academy with good infrastructural facilities, at Chennai, which was established in 1997. The students at the cricket academy have profited greatly through the knowledge and experience of VB Chandrasekhar and his coaching methods.
