Thevally Palace has the myth that a British resident, living across the Ashatamudi Lake and a beautiful lady, who lived in the Thevally Palace, fallen in love with each other. The main source of communication between them was a pet dog, which used to carry love-letters from the British resident to the lady across Ashatamudi Lake. One day, the dog was found dead, though the reason behind his death is still unknown. One can still find a monument, established at Thevally Palace in Kollam in the memory of the faithful dog.

Location of Thevally Palace
Thevalli Palace is a popular heritage palace situated at the banks of Ashtamudi lake, in Thevally, Kollam of Kerala. Tourist can enter in this palace while travelling on a house boat on Ashtamudi Lake. Thevalli Palace offers a clear view of the nearby villages, enveloped by dense coconut plantation. Thevally Palace is currently used by the Indian Army and Public Works Department.

History of Thevally Palace
Thevally Palace was built in between 1811 to 1819 the reign of Gowri Parvati Bayi. It is considered as a Hallmark of Kollam City. The Kings of Travancore had used Thevally Palace during their visits to Kollam in order to meet the British Residents of Kollam and to discuss with the officials. Thevally Palace was once used for the administrative purposes. Kollam was the capital of Travancore kingdom then. The total skeleton of Thevally Palace, made of materials like laterite and lime plaster.

Ownership of Thevally Palace
Thevally Palace is used as the NCC Group Headquarters of Kollam district. The palace and its premises are now owned by Public Welfare Department.

Tourism of Thevally Palace
The main attraction of Thevally Palace is that, it is situated on the banks of Ashtamudi Lake. The palace includes a temple of Lord Sastha.
