Suppandi, Characters in Indian Comics SeriesSuppandi is one of the popular characters in Indian comics series and is regularly featured in Tinkle comics magazine. It was created by Ram Waeerkar and published and distributed by ACK Media. The character of Suppandi is portrayed as a village fool and made his first appearance in Tinkle No.27 in January, 1983. It the most famous character in Tinkle.

History of Suppandi
Suppandi was not originally created by the visionaries of Tinkle comics. The idea for the character was obtained form three narrative stories by Sameer Salman from Trichy. The concept and the plot was transformed into comics and illustrated by renowned artist Ram Waeerkar. Since then, Suppandi has been regularly featured in every issue of Tinkle comics magazine. Waeerkar continued to illustrate numerous stories of the character until 2003, after which his skilled daughter, Archana Amberkar is working on the new issues of Suppandi.

Concept of Suppandi
Suppandi is a simpleton and often gets into troubles whenever he thinks about how to perform a task better instead of following the straightforward orders and commands of his master. In the first issue, it was shown that his master`s wife was sick and she wanted Suppandi to call a doctor. But rather than following the order like a normal domestic help, he brought a brainwave and attempted to take care of her himself. The conclusion was disastrous and hilarious. On the contrary, some stories also show that Suppandi became over obedient and refused to turn on the headlights of a scooter during night time as his master had ordered him to save electricity and reduce the electricity bill. He often fired from his job due to his recurrent mistakes and idiotic activities.

One of the most admired stories of Suppandi includes a tale when a friend of his master had come to visit. His new master, who was a miser, ordered him to give his friend only half of whatever the guest wanted. Suppandi obediently followed his master`s instructions and everything appeared to be alright, until the guest asked for a magazine which featured his master`s article. Suppandi followed his master`s orders and gave only half of the magazine to the guest.

Suppandi has been much popular amongst the readers of Tinkle comics as the readers are able to relate the fictional character with some people in reality. The character is liked by readers of all ages, children, teens and adults.

Tinkle has also published 2 books on Suppandi that consist a collection of the best stories accumulated from the past 25 years of publication.
