Ramchandra Sudhakar Rao, born on 8 August, 1952, in Bengaluru of India, is an ex-Indian cricketer. He is a right-hand batsman and a bowler with a right-arm off break style. This man of versatility has even played the role of a wicket keeper.
His batting caters to the preciseness of technical perfection. He has demonstrated his command over an interesting diversity of strokes, during his cricketer`s career. Sudhakar Rao was a rare jewel, in the circles of Karnataka cricket. The 1970s and the 1980s, happened to be the purple patch of his career. In the four-day Irani Trophy match of Karnataka versus the Rest of India, during October, 1974-75, the talented Sudhakar Rao, made a towering 115, for Karnataka in the very first innings.
Sudhakar Rao, shot to the limelight, with his outstanding scores, at the University standards. Similarly remarkable was his performance in the sphere of national competition. A crowning glory of 200, not out, against the tough Hyderabad in 1975-76, paved his way of ascension into the Indian team.
Impressed with his performance in domestic cricket, the selectors picked him up for the India team`s expedition to New Zealand and West Indies in 1975-76. His deeds were insignificant in this tour.
However, he was furnished with another scope in the second One-Day International. But he was run out, with a small 4 runs. He did little of note, but was given a chance in the second ODI when he was run out for 4. He was dropped, post this tour.
Nevertheless, Sudhakar Rao, persisted to be the sturdy foundation of the successful Karnataka. He represented the state team, which achieved the Ranji Trophy in 1973-74, 1977-78 and 1982-83.
The sincere Sudhakar Rao, has thus immensely enriched the Karnataka cricket with his mind-blowing diligence. At the time of his retirement he has a considerably fair scorecard, of 3021, on an average of 40.82 in the national competition
