Subhadra Pradhan is an Indian field hockey player who broke into the national team in 2000, as a member of the junior team. She hails from the Odisha state of India. Pradhan who is known for her extraordinary performance as right-half has represented Indian in various tournaments. She is the recipient of Ekalavya award.
Early life of Subhadra Pradhan
She was born on 5 June, 1986 to an Adivasi family, in Saunamara, a small town in Odisha. She studied in Birsa Munda School and later received her pre-university education from Khalsa College, Patiala.
Career of Subhadra Pradhan
In her initial days, Pradhan tutored at the Panposh Hockey Hostel at Rourkela under Vijay Lakra and started her career in hockey in the year 1997. She joined the country`s junior team in the year 2000. Pradhan led the junior team to a third place finish at the Junior Asia Cup in 2004.
She debuted as a senior hockey player in the year 2003. She was a part of the senior team that grabbed the gold medal in the 2004 Asia Cup. She also played with the team when it won the silver medal at the 2006 Commonwealth Games.
The year 2007 was a career high for Pradhan when she along with Jasjeet Kaur became the first Indian women to play for a European club. They played for the Dutch club HC Den Bosch.
Pradhan was the part of Indian Women Hockey Team for CWG 2010 where she played at the position of Midfielder.
Personal life of Subhadra Pradhan
Pradhan tied the knot with Pradeep Naik in April 2009 at her ancestral home in Sundagarh district. Presently, she is employed with the South Eastern Railway, Ranchi.
Achievements of Subhadra Pradhan
•Honoured with the Ekalavya award for her contribution to Indian hockey in 2006.
•Awarded the `Player of the Tournament` in the 2009 Asia Cup that India finished second.
